The Future is Amazing

And we’re living it right now.

Here’s why:

My Grandma on my Dad’s side is not the most computer savvy person around. Actually, neither is Grandma on Mom’s side, but that’s not the point. Grandma lives in and owns a duplex. The people downstairs moved out and now she needs to put an ad out. She called me and asked me to put something together for her that looked nice and would stand out from the other For Rent signs at the college where she was going to post it.

Of course I said “yes”.

Using iChat I initiated Screen Sharing so she could see my screen while I put it together. Then when everything was looking perfect I emailed her the PDF. THEN I initiated Screen Sharing so I could see/control her computer to help her print it. After she had printed it we had a nice video chat to catch up and so she could show me the final product.

All of this has been possible through to do for awhile with various technologies but iChat pulls them all together and makes it so easy that even Grandma can do it.

These pieces are about the five senses. And also love. For my illustration class!

I really like the idea of ‘home’. Going home, or finding a home. I think it’s always been an important theme in my work. I like drawing houses because of all the things they represent.

This series is about my home, and all the things I love/loved about being at home (in Wyandotte).

I was recently asked to be in a bike poster show at The Bikery . The theme of the show is Local/Euro: european-inspired cycling posters. Super exciting!

I decided that I wanted to screen print my posters, which turned out to be quite a challenge (I haven’t screen printed in about 4 years). But thanks to my good buddy Lucas of MouseSaw, it went well! He seriously is the nicest guy ever, and totally made the whole thing possible. DEFINITELY check out his work too, he is a master!

I don’t have pictures of the final yet, but here’s my photoshop file:

I didn’t manage to mix these colors, but the background is orange and the linework is a darkdark brown. I think it looks somewhat vintage/european. Mostly because I based it off this poster HERE.

I really like the simplicity of the image, and thought the typography was nice. As you can see, I was VERY inspired by it. I like the modernized figure though. Rolled up pants and a sweet tank top! The cap is a little throwback I suppose.

PRINTS WILL SOON BE AVAILABLE! I only got about 30 solid prints, so a very limited run! I’ll take some real life pictures soon.

If you’ve ever been in any sort of touristy situation with me, than you’ve no doubt been embarrassed by my technique of canvasing the entire area with pictures and not deleting any of them (even the blurry ones). I even partake in the oh-so-nerdy process of take picture -> rotate 30 degrees -> take picture -> rotate 30 degrees -> etc. Well, today all the awkwardness pays off because I’ve finally found a software which turns my pieces of panoramas into panoramas. I went through the last 5 years of panorama-shots this morning and picked out and stitched together the good ones. It’s all extremely automatic, which is awesome. The software is Microsoft Image Composite Editor by Microsoft Research. Free, but Windows Only!

Tennis Dream

First of all, this is Shambot’s 999th post! 1,000 is next, because that’s how numbers work!

I had a dream last night that I was playing doubles tennis against Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. I thought it was unfair that we were playing against twins so the the guy I was playing with and I put on matching t-shirts. Apparently that was good enough. We were on opposite sides of an empty indoor pool, and there was some sort of party going on around us, probably to watch us play tennis. The ball we were playing with was like a small inflatable beach ball and I couldn’t ever hit it right. Then people started getting in the pool and standing in the way of us playing, so we stopped.

Then I woke up.

Do you guys have any really weird dreams?
